Lesson #76: Jobs and Occupations
Today we’re going to learn some Job names in Hindi and some sentences to go with them. By the end of this lesson you should be able to ask ‘What’s your job?’ in Hindi the reply 'I am a ….’.
So firstly let’s learn some job names in Hindi…

And some more;
Accountant - मुनीम muneem
Policeman - पुलिसवाला pulisvaalaa
Farmer - किसान kisaan
Baker - बेकर bekar
Astronaut - ऐस्ट्रनाट aistranaat
A lot of them sound similar to English, which makes them a lot easier to learn! Ready to learn how to ask someone what their job is?
If you meet someone and you want to know what job they do, you simply say;
आप क्या काम करते हैं? aap kyaa kaam karte hain? What’s your job? (To a male). Or,
आप क्या काम करती हैं? aap kyaa kaam kartee hain? What’s your job? (To a female)
Literally this is - You do what work?. Replying to this question is easy. Let me show you some examples;
मैं एक किसान हूँ main ek kisaan hoon - I am a farmer.
मैं एक विद्यार्थी हूँ main ek vidyaarthee hoon - I am a Student
मैं एक डाक्टर हूँ main ek daaktar hoon - I am a Doctor.
And then of course you can change these sentences however you like using everything else we’ve learnt;
मैं एक किसान थी main ek kisaan thee - I was a farmer (Said by a Female)
वह ऐस्ट्रनाट है voh aistranaat hai - He is a Astronaut.
नेहा और प्रकाश विद्यार्थी थे nehaa aur prakaash vidyaathee the - Neha and Prakash were students.
Hopefully you now know a few job words in Hindi and how to ask someone their job! Of course there are millions more jobs, so if you want me to tell you what your job is called in Hindi then please leave a comment below (a lot of jobs are just the same as English though, as you can see).
